In accordance with Section 25 of the Licensed Practical Nurses Regulation, all practical nurses in Manitoba are required to carry liability insurance. Liability insurance protects the public by ensuring they have recourse in the event of an error or omission. For this reason, the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba purchases error and omission insurance on behalf of its members. The cost of this insurance is included in annual licence fees.
LPNs should note that CNA, the insurer, is not affiliated with the Canadian Nurses Association.
The documents below have been prepared by the insurance broker, Lloyd Sadd, to help LPNs understand their insurance coverage. These bulletins provide information on insurance policy in effect from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. Any questions or requests for further information about the policy should be directed to Lloyd Sadd.
It is also important that LPNs be aware of the circumstances in which they require additional coverage. The following bulletin describes some of these circumstances.
LPNs who work in independent practice are advised to consult an insurance provider for advice on additional coverage.
