Public Protection

The duty of the CLPNM is to regulate the profession of practical nursing in a manner that serves and protects the public interest. The CLPNM fulfills its duty, in part, by:

  • setting requirements for entry into the profession
  • developing and enforcing standards of practice and conduct
  • providing support to enable competent, appropriate, ethical and quality professional practice, and
  • investigating complaints about the conduct, competence or capacity of practical nurses, when necessary, and taking action to ensure the public interest is protected.
