Revised Competency Documents

The CLPNM has updated its two competency documents, which describe the:

  • entry-level competencies expected of all LPNs upon entry into the profession, and
  • broader nursing competencies that LPNs may develop, throughout the course of their career, within the full scope of their profession.

Updates to the competencies were introduced to address changes in the health system, changes in the post-basic education available to LPNs, and changes to the blueprint for the national entry-to-practice examination for licensed practical nurses. Several of the updates were introduced to ensure those entering the profession have the foundational competencies needed to provide appropriate, respectful and safe care to Indigenous clients, and clients who are vulnerable.

The revised competency documents are accessible here.

A summary of the revisions is available here.
