Licensed Practical Nurses Act

The Licensed Practical Nurses Act and Regulation provide the legal framework for the profession of practical nursing in Manitoba.

Purpose

The Licensed Practical Nurses Act (LPN Act) and Regulation establish the CLPNM’s authority to regulate practical nurses and the CLPNM’s duty to do so in a way that serves and protects the public interest.

In accordance with the LPN Act, the CLPNM is authorized to maintain a register of practical nurses, establish entry-to-practice requirements, establish standards of education, develop standards and codes to guide the profession, ensure continuing competence, and oversee the conduct of practical nurses.

The LPN Act also grants the Board of Directors the authority to make By-Laws to govern the affairs of CLPNM.

The LPN Act will be repealed when The Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) takes effect for Manitoba’s practical nursing profession
